In a perfect world we would obtain all of the nutrients, vitamins, minerals, aminio acids our bodies need through a balanced diet. The problem is that most of us cannot eat enough of the foods that supply these essential ingredients in the meals we consume as part of the average diet. Even if we tried to eat enough of these foods it would be a daunting task requiring a great deal of thought behind what we eat on a daily basis.
