The standard LDL lipid panel only measures ‘total’ LDL Cholesterol.
The size of the LDL particles, however, critical to understanding how how the ‘total’ LDL cholesterol score factors into your risk for a heart attack or stroke. Smaller ‘denser’ particles are more dangerous and put you at a higher risk for a heart attack or stroke. Larger ‘fluffy’ particles, however are not.
The way to test for the size of the LDL particles is through a Lipoproten Fractionatoin, NMR with Lipids test.
